Fayette commissioners discuss park fund, appoint Port Authority board

  • The Fayette County Commissioners met this week to discuss establishing a new Capital Project Fund for the Fayette County Park District.
  • The commissioners appointed a five-member board for the Fayette County Development and Finance Authority (Port Authority) pursuant to a prior resolution.
  • Another convening of the commissioners will be held on Friday, Oct. 31 to discuss the property tax relief; looking to recent recommendations released from the Ohio Property Tax Working Group
  • Columbus REALTORS® staff will continue to monitor and update the membership.

Ohio REALTORS® Push for Property Tax Reform in Senate Bill 129

  • Ohio REALTORS® testified this week before the Senate Local Government Committee in support of House Bill 129, a measure aimed at protecting homeowners from unchecked property tax increases.
  • The testimony emphasized the following: 
    • HB 129 is an important solution because it would include emergency and substitute levies in the calculation of the 20-mill floor, effectively increasing a school district’s recognized millage.
  • Ohio REALTORS® urges lawmakers to support HB 129 and deliver meaningful reform to Ohio’s property tax system. Staff will provide updates on this legislation as it progresses through the legislative process.

NAR Response to White House Request for Unput on Artificial Intelligence Regulatory Reform

  • The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) recently requested public input on regulatory reforms for artificial intelligence (AI). NAR commended the administration’s leadership and outlined several ways to remove barriers to AI adoption and innovation in the real estate industry.
  • NAR’s response identified several regulatory areas where federal guidance, standards, and educational resources could support broader AI adoption and drive innovation:
    • State Patchwork; 
    • Copyright Act; and 
    • Fair Housing Act
