Columbus REALTORS® 2026 Secretary Qiana Jones and affiliate member Nate Kinkopf sat down for an interview with Amy Juravich (journalist with WOSU, NPR News) to provide an update on central Ohio’s real estate market. 

 

On Friday, May 15, Columbus REALTORS®, in partnership with the Franklin County Auditor’s Office and the Franklin County Recorder’s Office, held a Home Title Fraud Summit. 10TV and Spectrum News were in the association building and covered the event.

Local –  

Whitehall City Council Sets Date for Recall Election of Mayor, City Councilmembers

  • This week, members of Whitehall City Council unanimously voted to set a new date for a special election to Recall (remove from office) Mayor Michael Bivens and Councilmembers Amy Harcar and Lori Elmore. 
  • This is an update from a previous effort by Whitehall for All, a citizen’s led coalition, to collect enough signatures go to the ballot via a special election, previously set for May 28, which will now be held on Tuesday, June 23.
  • Mayor Bivens is supported by CORPAC. Staff will provide updates as they develop.

Ohio REALTORS® Testifies in Support of Deed Fraud Legislation

  • Ohio REALTORS® is helping lead the fight to protect Ohioans against the criminal activity known as deed fraud.
  • Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Andrew Huffman, provided proponent testimony this week on House Bill (HB 749), which would grant County Auditors with permissive authority to establish a property protection program where a property owner may voluntarily register a property and a “freeze” would be placed on the deed.
  • Staff are monitoring and will update the membership.

National – 

Modified 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act Passes in the U.S. House of Representative

  • The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act takes important steps to close the nation’s housing supply gap and make homes more affordable.
  • National Association of REALTORS® President Kevin Brown sent a letter to Congressional leadership earlier this week, urging them to swiftly support this measure and move it to the Senate.
  • Central Ohio’s Congressional Delegation all voted in favor of the legislation, which now heads to the U.S. Senate for deliberation. 
  • Staff are monitoring and will update the membership on the progress of this federal legislation.
