Grove City Council Postpones Vote on Amendment That Would Limit Large Development

  • This past Monday, Grove City Council considered a measure that would put a Community Consent Amendment (CAA) on the November General Election ballot; council postponed the legislative measure and a resolution that asked council to oppose to CAA.
  • Under the proposed charter amendment, major developments would be sent to a referendum if they plan to take up 50 acres or more, draw more than 20 megawatts of electricity at peak capacity, or consume more than 500,000 gallons of water per day.
  • Council is set to address and potentially vote on this during a special meeting on Thursday, 9/3.
  • Columbus REALTORS® Government Affairs Chair, Matt Gregory, submitted written testimony, urging council to oppose this charter amendment given its potential impact on commercial and residential development.
  • Government Affairs staff are monitoring this issue closely and will provide updates as they develop. Staff were in attendance during Monday evening’s council meeting and will be in attendance on 9/3.

Columbus City Council Hold Public Hearing on New Council Structure

  • This past Monday, Columbus City Council held a public hearing on a proposal from the coalition, Our City, Our Say to change how council members are elected.
  • The Our City Our Say coalition wants only voters within each of Columbus' nine city council districts to be able to vote for their representative. Currently, every Columbus voter gets to vote for each council member.
  • Council is set to vote on Monday, 8/24 to put the Our City Our Say ballot initiative on the November ballot.
  • Columbus REALTORS® does not have a position on this currently. The Government Affairs Issues Advocacy Committee is set to hear from members of Columbus City Council during its next committee meeting.
  • Government Affairs staff are monitoring this issue closely and will provide updates as they develop. Staff were in attendance during Monday evening’s hearing and will be in attendance on 8/24.
