Columbus City Council Consider Rental Registry, Property Inspection Legislation 

  • This Monday, Council had the first reading of a residential rental property registry with exterior inspection requirements, Ordinance 0923-2026
  • Ordinance Sponsor Councilmember Nick Bankston held a press conference this week detailing the legislation and indicated that the legislation will be on the agenda for passage on Monday, April 20th. 
  • Members and staff remain engaged in this 11th hour with policy changes to the legislation; however, can report that we’ve had positive concessions, such as removal of Point-of-Sale Inspection language and criminal penalties, among many others.
  • We remain opposed.

City of Reynoldsburg Considering New Law for Short-Term Rentals

  • The city of Reynoldsburg is exploring new rules targeting short-term rentals, like Airbnb and Vrbo.
  • Reynoldsburg currently does not have any laws regulating short-term rentals.
  • Columbus City Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy is hosting a public hearing Tuesday, April 21 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to discuss potential updates to the city's short-term rental ordinances and procedures as part of his Columbus Forward Safer City Initiative.
  • Staff is monitoring and engaged with council members of both municipalities and will update membership.

Ohio REALTORS® Continues Fight to Protect Home Inspector Licensing in Senate

  • Ohio REALTORS® continued efforts this week to defend Ohio’s home inspector license, providing testimony before the Senate Government Oversight Committee on House Bill 59 (HB 59).
  • In testimony, Ohio REALTORS® urged lawmakers to maintain the current system and emphasized that it strikes the right balance between consumer protection and maintaining a strong, accessible workforce of qualified inspectors.
  • Staff is monitoring and will update membership.
  • Register for Ohio REALTORS® at the Rotunda slated for May 13th at the Ohio Statehouse.
