Over $53,000 invested in central Ohio
REALTOR® Care Day – June 9, 2021
Despite the wet and rainy conditions, almost 500 local REALTORS®, family and friends cleaned, painted, pruned and planted this past Wednesday as part of the Columbus REALTORS®’ 17th annual REALTOR® Care Day, helping improve many homes and organizations all over central Ohio!
Started in 2005, REALTOR® Care Day is an annual day of service to the communities in which REALTORS® live, work and raise families. In the last 17 years, REALTOR® Care Day has contributed almost $625,000 in improvements and repairs and hundreds of hours of service to residents and communities around central Ohio.
“Although REALTORS® give back to our communities every day, this is a one-day event that we come together collectively to make a significant difference,” said Michael Jones, 2021 President of Columbus REALTORS®. “And it’s heartwarming to see the appreciation from the homeowners as well as the organizations.”
For the main project this year, led by co-chairs Matt Osowski and Amanda Roderick, 100 volunteers worked on four homes, a children’s safe space, a community garden and litter abatement in Columbus’ south side.
“We were focused on the Southern Orchards and Southside CAN neighborhoods last year as well, but the pandemic forced us to scale back and only complete part of the project,” said Roderick. “So, we were excited to be able to return to the area and do something special for these residents this year.”
“In addition to enhancing the community garden, we installed a gazebo and tables to provide shade and respite for neighbors working in the garden,” added Osowski. “It was a long, wet day, but worth it!”
Although the rain caused some projects which involved painting or staining to be postponed, there were 23 area realty associations involved with REALTOR® Care Day attacking service projects all over central Ohio.
Over $53,000 was invested to accomplish the 44 projects which included:
