COLUMBUS, OH – (April 3, 2023) Columbus REALTORS® hosted its annual Joint Congressional Roundtable on Monday, April 3, at Embassy Suites-Columbus. The members-only bipartisan event featured Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3) and Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) in a forum moderated by Columbus REALTORS® Government Affairs Chair Sarah Martie.
Ohio REALTORS® Government Affairs Director Andrew Huffman kicked off the event with updates from the statehouse, and Columbus REALTORS® CEO Brent Swander followed with an update on the politics impacting the local housing market.
Since 2013, Columbus REALTORS® has hosted the event, which brings together congresspeople from both sides of the aisle in a discussion focused on real estate, the economy, and how it impacts our members.
A veteran of the Joint Congressional Roundtable, Congresswoman Beatty has served Ohio’s 3rd District since January 2013. She was the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and is a member of the Committee on Financial Services and the Joint Economic Committee.
This was the first Joint Congressional Roundtable appearance for Congressman Carey since assuming office in 2021. He was recently selected to serve on the House Committee on Ways & Means.
“Outside of voting rights, housing is the number one issue,” remarked Congresswoman Beatty. “Having a place that you can call home makes a difference.”
Some topics discussed at the roundtable focused on development, downtown living, taxation, affordable housing, current supply issues, and how members can make their voices heard.
“Your organizations have outstanding representatives at the state and local levels,” said Congressman Carey. “What also makes a difference is calling our district office. Tell us what you are experiencing.”
