Columbus REALTORS® members and staff have been very active so far this year and continue to be the trusted voice of real estate in advocacy as we reflect upon the past six months. Columbus REALTORS® was recognized by Columbus City Council for our partnership and commitment to fair housing policies.
Building off the momentum of REALTORS® at the Rotunda, members are very active in the statehouse as the legislature explores property tax relief for homeowners, protecting Ohioans against the criminal activity known as deed fraud, and advocating to protect Home Inspector Licensing.
Members and staff headed to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. for our annual NAR mid-year REALTOR® Legislative Meetings. Members met with our congressional delegation Joyce Beatty (OH-3), Troy Balderson (OH-12), and Senator John Husted.
Top priority issues and requests to our congressional members were to:
•Support the More Homes on the Market Act (H.R 1340/S.3332) to decrease the equity penalty and incentivize more long-term owners to sell their homes.
•Support the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act (H.R. 66644) to streamline housing production and affordability by modernizing outdated housing programs, reducing regulatory barriers, expanding infrastructure investment, and increasing flexibility for local communities.
•Support the Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act (H.R. 2410) to convert underused commercial properties into residential and mixed-use housing.
•Support the Association Health Plans Act (H.R 2528/S.1847) to provide REALTORS® with access to quality, affordable health care.
During the summer months, we go on vacations, spend time with family and friends and emote the weather before school starts in the fall. However, there are always opportunities to get involved in advocacy! You can stay up to date with the latest real estate advocacy news by signing up for our weekly government affairs e-updates. We will have a few upcoming events, so be on the lookout for more information. YOUR voice and YOUR engagement matters!
