We have started 2021 on a new foot – a good fit. I’m excited and ready for us all to enjoy success during this exceptional year.
As always, I encourage you to remain adaptive to the market conditions and industry circumstances. It’s increasingly more important to have good, consistent communication. Things obviously move quickly. While market conditions change, people will remember... how you conducted yourselves, how professional you were, how pleasant the “contract to close” experience was. Remember to take some time to contemplate when you’re evaluating multiple offers and negotiating leases for harder hit areas. Remember why we’re REALTORS®.
It’s also important to understand what exactly the changes we see or hear mean for us, working throughout the Central Ohio market area. Our association will keep you informed and clear up any misconceptions. We deal in facts. We want every member to be armed with information for themselves, as well as anyone they may encounter who doesn’t have the benefit of information or the facts.
Equally important is the flow of information back to the association from you, our members...what you’re seeing, hearing, experiencing, etc. You are always encouraged to provide the helpful information that strengthens REALTORS® within your own communities; the positive information that can encourage, reinforce and uplift one another; and the not-so-positive information that helps us learn from our mistakes (we all make them). Simply by bringing up mistakes – intentional or otherwise – you can help guide others to avoid those same errors and, in turn, help them grow. When we help others thrive, we as individuals, and as an association, grow right alongside them.
Being a REALTOR® means something unique to all of us. We conduct ourselves according to a Code of Ethics; we have standards and respect for one another. An example of these standards, especially in the current pandemic environment – following the CDC guidelines while conducting real estate activities. Showings, closings, open houses... all of which are done in a very public way and have bearing on how we are perceived, not only by consumers but also by our colleagues. This is just one way to demonstrate how REALTORS® do things – professionally.
This year – what I’ve recently dubbed as the ‘Year of the REALTOR®’ – we’re working diligently to enhance what that means to you! We will to continue using our traditional means of communication – email, social media, In Contract magazine. We are beginning to increase information sharing with members through our local area associations. But don’t forget – communication is a two-way street. We need your help to stay informed, to stay focused. We improve by helping others improve. You are your brother’s and sister’s keeper.
