2018 Post Election Analysis and Look Ahead

Join the Government Affairs Forum for a post-election analysis Thursday, Dec. 13 at Columbus REALTORS®. The panel will discuss local, state and federal election results, key takeaways from the election and what lies ahead in 2019.

Panelists for the forum will be:

Republican Panelist: Michael Hartley

Michael is the President of Swing State Strategies, where he utilizes his nearly two decades of political, policy/issue and corporate experience to work with clients on their public affairs, policy issue and political strategy needs. Most recently, Hartley spent over four years as the Vice President of Government Relations for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, where he led the advocacy effort at the local, state and federal levels on behalf of the Central Ohio business community.

Prior to his time with the Chamber, Hartley spent over thirteen years developing a reputation as one of the best political operatives on Ohio, serving a leadership role in a number of high profile campaigns and government offices. His roles included: Director of Public Liaison and Senior staff member for Governor John Kasich where he directed all outreach efforts from the Governor's Office, six Ohio statewide campaigns, including as Deputy Campaign Manager for Kasich/Taylor for Ohio in 2010, Campaign Manager for Stivers for Congress in 2008 and Ohio Political Director for Bush/Cheney re-election in 2004; as well as, serving in director positions in the Attorney General's and Auditor of State's Office.

Hartley received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Secondary Education from Baldwin-Wallace University. He lives in Circle with his wife Samantha and two children, Xavier and Sofia.

Democratic Panelist: Amanda Wurst

Amanda brings more than 10 years of experience in campaign politics, public service and corporate public relations as a communications strategist and spokesperson.

Wurst led communications operations for numerous campaigns, specifically presidential and congressional races in Ohio, including the fourth successful write-in campaign for U.S. Congress in American history.

From 2006 to 2010, Wurst served as press secretary and deputy communications director for Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.

After leaving government, Wurst joined one of the most prominent public relations firms in Ohio, focusing on award-winning national public awareness campaigns and business-to-business and business-to-consumer PR and marketing strategies for clients such as CelebrateOne, White Castle and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

She joined Remington Road Group in 2015 as vice president of communications. She lives in Hilliard with her husband, Jim, and 3 year-old son, Oliver.

Republican Panelist: Katie Eagan

Katie Eagan was named Vice President of Government Affairs for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, effective Nov. 26. Katie is the former executive director of the Ohio Republican Party (2015-2016) and will lead the chamber's advocacy efforts.

Katie, only the second woman to ever hold the Executive Director position at the Ohio GOP served the past two years as Executive Director of the Ohio Vision Professionals Board. Katie has also worked as State Director for Americans for Prosperity Foundation as a policy adviser for the Ohio House of Representatives and positions with the Ohio Industrial Commission and the Ohio House Republican Caucus.

Katie is a graduate of the Jo Ann Davidson Leadership Institute. A native of Cincinnati she earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Ohio State University.

Democratic Panelist: Louis Capobianco

Louis brings over 15 years of experience in government and political experience in Ohio. Capobianco has been coordinating successful political strategies in Ohio for years at all levels from Municipal, county, legislative to statewide efforts.

Louis served as the Director of legislative Affairs to former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. In this role, Louis advised the governor on all matters pending before the General Assembly, oversaw the negotiations with legislative leaders on legislation such as the state's operating budget. Capobianco's work helped lead to Ohio being the only state in the nation to pass a two-year tuition freeze for Ohio's college students and expand access to health care to all children in Ohio.

Louis has played senior roles for numerous candidates, organizations and issue campaigns. He has worked and advised on campaigns for City Council, Mayor, County Commission, State Senate, State House, Supreme Court, Governor and U.S. Senate. Additionally Louis has worked with allied groups like American Votes, Planned Parenthood and Issue 2 to repeal SB 5. Capobianco also served as Political Director to the 2010 Coordinated campaign in Ohio.

Louis lives in Shawnee Hills, Ohio with his wife Missy and their three children, Maggie, Joseph and Lily.
