Providing services to encourage and retain commercial membership
As the incoming chair of the Commercial Member Services Committee, I have big shoes to fill as I follow Dan Sheeran who chaired this committee last year. If I had to sum up our purpose and mission, I would break it down into three main categories.
One of our major goals as a group is to further the commercial internship program. I put this one first because I think it is really important. I remember becoming a licensed real estate agent while in college in the late 80s. At the time, I had no idea what opportunities were available in representing clients looking to purchase, sale or lease commercial properties. I also had no clue as to the intricacies of acting as a commercial REALTOR®.
Our internship program offers college students and practicing residential REALTORS® the opportunity to network and eventually become interns with central Ohio commercial brokerages, commercial lenders, and other related businesses. Last year we placed five interns from five different colleges. We had more great intern candidates than we had positions.
Randy Best of Best Corporate Real Estate hosted two interns last year and had this to say, “They were essential in doing market research, and other office tasks. We look forward to participating in next year’s program at Columbus REALTORS®.” It is our goal this year to add more hosts and get more of these interns successfully placed.
Our committee also interviews and approves commercial preferred vendors for Columbus REALTORS®. We added several great resources last year and I intend to add at least one good new vendor at each of our meetings this year. These approved vendors may be accessed from the front page of our Association’s website, ColumbusRealtors.com.
Lastly, our committee has been charged with vetting new commercial applicants wishing to join Columbus REALTORS®. We see a lot of newly licensed people come through and will continue to make it our goal to add good valuable members.
On behalf of the Commercial Member Services Committee and the Commercial Advisory Board, we look forward to a great 2019 and a bright future for Columbus REALTORS®!
