Not unlike the real estate market in which we spend such a big part of our daily lives, the 2019 education calendar has been jam packed with activity. Our focus with the Columbus REALTORS® Residential Education Committee is in line with the strategic goals of the Association to raise member professionalism and member participation. Therefore, we have added several new courses and plan to add a few more over the summer and into the fall and winter quarters. Due to the shortage of active homes on the market, we have discussed the need for offering a legal course presented by Bill Fergus who is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Specialist in Residential Property Law and Columbus Bar Association liaison to the Columbus REALTORS® Standard Forms Committee. Check for this course in an upcoming In Contract magazine.
Since the Baby Boomer population is in a down-sizing spiral we are offering a senior’s course that will educate our members on the ins and outs of right sizing and the opportunities for senior housing in central Ohio. We have enlisted the support of the Senior Roundtable and experts from Franklin County, the City of Columbus and the Central Ohio Agency on Aging. They will be discussing everything from Medicare and Medicaid to trends in permanent and rental housing for those over 55.
Our task force is arranging to have several retirement community representatives speak at our three-hour “Roadmap to Senior Living” course coming up in the 3rd quarter. Watch for more information online and in the In Contract magazine.
Highlighted on our upcoming education calendar are two incredible city bus tours. In late June, longtime Grandview Resident and Columbus Historian Rich Broderick directed a tour of our fine city. Planned stops included the Short North, Victorian Village, Franklinton, Central Downtown, the Brewery District and German Village. Rich used to run a Trolley Tour up and down High Street and has given tours for King Thompson and HER Realtors®.
Another fan favorite is our own Buzz Thomas. We have enlisted Buzz to spotlight the sensational southside featuring Steve Wagner’s fabulous secret automobile museum in Schumacher Place and Historical St. Leo’s Church in Merion Village. Check the In Contract for the date and time of this tour.
We continue to offer core courses at no charge to our membership. We are working to better promote our residential classes to the Area Realty and Joint Industry Associations through improved communications from the Columbus REALTORS® Communications Department.
More featured classes on our 2019 list include a tour of Rosemarie Rosetti’s unique universally- designed east side property, a second course promoting the Certified Tour Ambassador Membership and a highly sought-after class on Residential Real Estate Negotiations.
We are also partnering with committees within the Association to bring more relevant topics to our 8,000 members. Future offerings include working in conjunction with appraisers, dealing with various generational clients and social media trends effecting our industry. It’s so exciting to be part of the vibrant Residential Education Committee!
