The Columbus REALTORS® Commercial Real Estate Internship Program was introduced last year, and this summer will mark its second summer term for interns to be placed into commercial member brokerages, lending institutions and appraisal firms.
In 2018, the program placed five interns from five different colleges into three different brokerages. Colleges represented included Auburn University, Ohio Dominican University, Capital University and The Ohio State University.
Columbus REALTORS® Commercial Education Committee members Dan Sheeran, Jr., and William Carpenter attended college career fairs at Ohio Dominican University and Columbus State Community College last fall. At both of these fairs, met and engaged with over 40 college students who showed great interest in commercial real estate and in entering the internship program this summer.
Now we just need to find interested member brokerages, lending institutions and appraisal firms to host an interested student this summer. The sponsoring firm only need to offer an opportunity for a minimum of eight weeks and 15 hours weekly. The interns come to the table prepared to produce and complete many functions. Most internships lasted much longer than the eight weeks and one internship started in late 2017 is still active and the intern will be graduating this spring and is considering obtaining a real estate license to start his career.
Broker Randy Best of Best Commercial Real Estate hosted two interns last summer and commented, "The interns were essential in doing marketing research, and other office tasks. We look forward to participating in next year's program at Columbus REALTORS® for the Commercial Internship Program."
Dan Sheeran, Jr, further stated, “I have been very impressed with the quality and maturity of the students I have met over the past two years. The students possess both technical knowledge and the ability to help employers almost immediately.”
If you have any questions or would like to host an intern this summer, please contact Dan Sheeran, Jr. at email@example.com or at (614) 629-5228.
We have several candidates with varied backgrounds and talent sets. Brokerages get to review several candidates and the hiring decisions are completely up to the sponsoring brokerage.
