Building relationships: “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu”

It’s that time of year again — election time. In less than two months, we’ll be voting! Although some of you had the opportunity to vote in the 12th Congressional District Special Election in early August.

Every year the CORPAC Governing Board meets to interview candidates running for offices which impact our industry; something we take very seriously. This year is no different. Over two full days in August, the Governing Board reviewed completed candidate questionnaires and interviewed those candidates running local and state open seat races.

It’s important to note that Columbus, Ohio and the National Association of REALTORS® are incumbent friendly organizations. Simply put, if an incumbent is running for re-election in the seat they currently hold, our organizations will continue to stand behind them as long as they remain REALTOR® friendly.

CORPAC Governing Board only issues financial support; but does not have the ability to “endorse.” An endorsement may only be issued by the Columbus REALTORS® Board of Directors, which is rare. However, Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo has been endorsed by the Board of Directors for his 2018 re-election campaign. Auditor Mingo has been a friend of REALTORS® since taking office in 2009. A disabled veteran of the United States Army, Auditor Mingo has served our members and consumers well. From returning nearly $20 Million to local governments, including local schools, to having one of the best websites in the State of Ohio to being responsive and available to the community at all times, Auditor Mingo deserves to be re-elected. Mingo continues his common-sense approach to public service with citizens and duty above party to ensure criminals cannot steal your private information with credit card skimmers and with adequately and fairly assessing property values.

The Governing Board also recognized the continued hard work of Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown. Commissioner Brown has continued to be a REALTOR® Champion and a friend of our industry. Commissioner Brown’s commitment to housing affordability is unparalleled and should be recognized. We look forward to our continued work with Commissioner Brown in her capacity as Franklin County Commissioner.

Your CORPAC Governing Board understands the importance of building relationships with elected officials on both sides of the aisle. The adage still holds true, “if you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.” We build relationships with our clients but it’s also important for our members to build relationships with the public and elected officials impacting our day-to-day business.
