In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Connecting the Stars’, we’re building community by welcoming the Marysville Association of REALTORS® (MAR) as effective July 1, 2015, MAR merged with Columbus REALTORS®.
The 90+ agents of MAR and Union County will continue as the Marysville Area Realty Association. As such, they will continue to meet regularly, conduct home tours, organize community service projects, and keep abreast of local government matters. In essence, they will continue to maintain a strong presence in their area and county.
However, administrative duties - dues collection, annual association certification, mediation, ethics complaints and arbitration requests - will be provided by Columbus REALTORS®.
"By merging with Columbus REALTORS® and becoming an Area Realty Association, our members will maintain their own identity but have access to additional programs, services, networking and referral opportunities to expand their business," said Chad Long, 2015 President of the Marysville Association of REALTORS®.
With this merger, Marysville members will have representation on Columbus REALTORS® CORPAC, Grievance, Professional Standards and MLS committees as well as our Board of Directors and the Ohio Association of REALTORS® board of directors. Further, our new Marysville members may also seek appointment on any of our 30+ committees.
“Our two organizations have successfully shared MLS and electronic keybox services for many years,” said Kathy Shiflet, Columbus REALTORS® 2015 President. “We’re excited to take our affiliation to the next level which will provide more personal and professional involvement.”
Marysville members will now have access to Columbus REALTORS® legislative advocacy, standard forms, various sales and service awards, our Young professionals network, events such as Joint Industry Forecast, Awards Lunch, Annual Business Meeting, REALTOR® Expo, affordable housing roundtables, printing services, and discounts on products and services from our preferred vendors (including insurance, clubs, office/computer equipment, autos, advertising, legal services, banking services, internet service, etc.)
Additionally, they will receive communication regarding legislative and regulatory issues, industry updates, housing statistics, events, education, etc. via the In Contract magazine, weekly e-Notes, monthly edu-Notes (education), b-Notes (for brokers) and issue specific correspondence.
The National Association of REALTORS® reports 73 mergers among its roughly 1,300 local associations in the past three years.
“Consolidation of services is a smart move in today’s economy,” said Stan Collins, Columbus REALTORS® CEO. “On behalf of Columbus REALTORS® leadership, members and staff, we look forward to working with our new Marysville and Union County members.”
With MAR’s decision to merge, the Columbus REALTORS® organization now serves almost 6,700 members in the counties of Franklin, Fayette (merged in 2003), Madison (merged in 2003), Morrow (merged in 1997), Pickaway County (merged in 2010), and now Union.
The Marysville Association of REALTORS® was chartered on Nov. 11, 1954 as the Union County Real Estate Board. At that time, the board had eight members and dues were $45 (NAR $10; OAR $8; local $27). The board’s Secretary was Lorin W. Cook who later went on to be President of the Board. In May 1959, they changed their name to the Union County Board of REALTORS® and in November 1992, they became the Marysville Association of REALTORS®.
A special joint orientation program for members from Marysville and Union County is scheduled for Thursday, Jul. 23 from 11:30a – 1:30p at the Union County Services Building.
