Columbus REALTORS® honors its best and brightest!

(April 22, 2016) Columbus REALTORS® held its annual Awards Celebration yesterday, where six central Ohio members were honored for their outstanding commitment to the real estate profession and to the central Ohio community. 

As only one award is made annually in each category, this esteemed honor is recognized as a sign of excellence throughout the real estate industry.

Michael Mahon, 2016 Broker of the Year
Mahon serves as broker and president of HER, Realtors® and has been in real estate and a member of Columbus REALTORS® for 26 years. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University (OSU), and is a Certified New Home Sales Professional (CSP) and a Certified CSP instructor through the National Association of Home Buyers. He’s also certified as an instructor for the Building Industry of Central Ohio (BIA), and is a registered speaker for the OSU Fisher College of Business.

He’s currently serving the last year of three-year terms on the Columbus REALTORS® Board of Directors and on the Central Ohio Multiple Listing Service (MLS), is a member of the Columbus REALTORS® Ten Million Dollar Sales Club, Director Liaison to the Builder/REALTOR® Alliance Committee, and serves on the Governance Task Force and as a member of Columbus REALTORS® Budget and Finance, CORPAC Steering and Governmental Affairs Steering committees. 

He is a supporter of the Ohio Military Hall of Fame and a member of the Small Business Association, the OSU Faculty Club and of the OSU Alumni Association. He also serves as a member of the Pickerington Chamber of Commerce and a volunteer and supporter of the Pickerington Community Food Bank.

Mahon is a two time recipient of the BIA Sales Manager Award; has twice received Columbus CEO Magazine Best in Business Award and, in 2015, was a recognized speaker at the RISMedia CEO Exchange in New York, discussing the progressive data changes occurring throughout the real estate industry.

Gloria Alonso Cannon, 2016 Salesperson of the Year
Alonso Cannon is a sales associate with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Professional Realty and has been a member of Columbus REALTORS® for 20 years. She has earned the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR), the Certified Residential Specialists (CRS), the Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI), and e-Pro industry designations, and is a member of Columbus REALTORS® Ten Million Dollar Sales Award Club.

Cannon is one of only two Ohio REALTORS® to have completed the National Association of REALTORS® Leadership Academy.

Cannon currently serves as co-chair of Columbus REALTORS® Foundation Fundraising Committee and as a member of the Benevolence Committee. She has chaired its Awards Night, CORPAC Fundraising, Governmental Affairs, Grievance, REALTOR® Care Day, Residential Standard Forms and Sales Advisory committees, and the Columbus REALTORS® Leadership Academy Advisory Board.

In addition, she has served a three-year term on Columbus REALTORS® Board of Directors, is a past member of the CEO Evaluation, Communication and Technology Users committees, as well as a past member of the Communication Audit, Lifetime Achievement, MLS Data Sharing, and the Web Site Redesign task forces.

Cannon donates toys to Children’s Hospital for the holidays, adopts families in need, works on several fundraisers throughout the year for various civic groups and with several dog and animal rescue groups. In the past, she has also been a volunteer for Fairy Goodmothers/Cinderella’s Closet, Adopt a Soldier Group and the Ohio Wildlife Center. 

She is a former member of the Worthington Chamber of Commerce, the Old Worthington Business Association, Civitan International, Hilliard Darby Athletic Boosters, and a former student mentor at Hilliard Darby High School.

Gary Anderson, 2016 Affiliate of the Year
Anderson is a sales representative with Borror Properties/Truberry Custom Homes and has been in new home construction sales for 31 years and a licensed REALTOR® for 21 years. He holds the Certified New Home Sales Professional (CSP), Certified New Home Marketing Professional (CMP) and the Graduate, REALTOR® Institute designations. In 2015, he was awarded the Building Industry Association (BIA) Ten Million Dollar Sales Award, ranking among top 10 new home representatives. 

He currently serves as co-chair of the Columbus REALTORS® Builder/REALTOR® Alliance Committee (BRAC), and is a past member of its Central Ohio REALTORS® Political Action Committee (CORPAC) and of the Governmental Affairs Committee.

He also serves as vice president of the Westerville Area Realty Association and is a member of the Greater Dublin, Midtown, Hilliard and Southern Delaware County area realty associations.

Anderson is a blood and bone marrow donor, State Pro-Life Director of Ohio Knights of Columbus, has served for several years as a board member of Ohio Right to Life, and as a past president of Greater Columbus Right to Life. He’s also a former board member of St. Johns Learning Center and of Mater Dei Academy and volunteers with Holy Family Soup Kitchen in Franklinton and at the Homeless Families Foundation.

Debbie Parris, 2016 Rising Star of the Year
Parris is a sales associate with Coldwell Banker King Thompson and has been a member of Columbus REALTORS® since June 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Ph.D in Microbiology from Virginia Tech, and was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine.

In her short tenure in real estate, Debbie has completed 17 transactions, earned membership in Columbus REALTORS® One Million Dollars Sales Award Club, and has become a member of Coldwell Banker King Thompson’s International Sterling Society and the recipient of its Truly Remarkable Service Award. In 2015, she was named Coldwell Banker King Thompson (Central Ohio area) Rising Star of the year. 

Parris has served on the Board of Trustees, as president and as co-chair of the Scientific Committee for Ohio Cancer Research (a non-profit providing seed grants to Ohio researchers) and is a volunteer at The Ohio State University James Cancer Center, where she records written feedback of oral Pelotonia undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral grant reviews. She has also rode in the Pelotonia bike tour raising money for the cancer center every year since the tour’s inception seven years ago. 

Council Member Michael Stinziano, 2016 Citizen of the Year
Council Member Stinziano has worked closely with Columbus REALTORS® on numerous public policy issues, and has attended almost every Association-sponsored event, participated regularly with Columbus REALTORS® Leadership Academy, and interacts often with its Young Professionals Network. Like his father, Mike Stinziano, who served 22 years as a State Representative and was a long-time central Ohio REALTOR® before moving to Chicago in 1995, he counts REALTORS® among his strongest supporters.

Council Member Stinziano was elected to Columbus City Council in November 2015, where he currently serves as chair of Council’s Public Utilities, Judiciary & Court Administration, and Technology committees. He has also served as a member of numerous professional boards, chair of the Columbus Bar Association's Government Agencies Committee, and is an Adjunct Law Professor at Capital University Law School, where he teaches the course on legislation. 

Outside of the legislature, he has served on the boards of the Franklinton Development Association, The Friends of the Hilltop, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus, The lnternational Visitors Council, Kids Voting Central Ohio, and as a member and former Secretary of the Board of Gladden Community House. 

Council Member Stinziano received a bachelor’s degree in leadership studies from the University of Richmond. Later, while working for the Woodrow Wilson International Center, a Smithsonian Institution think tank, earned a master’s degree in public administration from George Washington University and, after returning to Columbus, graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D, 2015 Joseph L. MacKinnon Instructor of the Year 
Rossetti has developed a course entitled “Designing Homes that Make Life Easier,” featuring a presentation and tour of the Universal Design Living Laboratory, which is also her home. The 3,500 square foot ranch-style home is designed and built to specifications that fulfill universal design principles, and the use of “green” features. Columbus REALTORS® offered this course twice in 2015, and anticipates including the course in this year’s curriculum. 

Rossetti is president of Rossetti Enterprises Inc. and has eight years of experience in sales and marketing as vice-president of an interior landscaping company. She has served as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA), and has served on the board of directors for the NSA Ohio Chapter.

She has received numerous accolades for her work, including the Unsung Hero Humanitarian Award in New York City from the People of Distinction Foundation, was honored as one of “20 Outstanding Women You Should Know” in central Ohio, and was selected as a national “Roll Model” on the runway in a New York City fashion show for a spinal cord injury fundraiser sponsored by Discovery through Design. 

Rossetti has a Ph.D., Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees from The Ohio State University in agricultural education.
