At our Joint Industry Forecast luncheon, Dr. Ted Jones, Chief Economist for Stewart Title and Kenny McDonald, President of Columbus 2020, presented an optimistic outlook for the central Ohio economy and the real estate market.
As we ended 2018, the housing inventory was making some small improvements in the fourth quarter.
Will this trend continue in 2019 and begin to move us toward a more balanced market place? Or will we continue to struggle with low inventory and the challenges that it presents?
Likely with these projections and expectations for central Ohio, we will see the latter, being driven by the continued growth in our population and employment.
We are fortunate to have a strong market making real estate a great investment as we continue to experience increases in market value.
The other side of that issue is housing affordability. Both the City of Columbus and Franklin County as well as other communities are working on programs this year to positively impact this critical issue.
Columbus REALTORS® looks forward to working with these groups to find solutions to affordability and their implementation.
We have some exciting programs being rolled out during the first few months this year which will offer greater benefits and tools to assist you with your real estate business.

Another technology tool from CoreLogic is going live by the end of March. Data Checker can be used when loading a listing into MLS to verify public record information for the listing. This will help reduce inaccuracies and potential fines. (More info on page 35.)
In the works…
For our COCIE members, Columbus REALTORS® has been actively working with Catylist and other Ohio REALTOR® associations to organize a statewide Commercial Information Exchange (CIE).
Today, Columbus is the only association in the state to have their own CIE. As proposed, each association’s CIE will be operated autonomously, but all subscribers from each of the CIEs will be able to access all the data in the state. As the subscriber base grows in numbers throughout the state, Catylist will be adding additional staffing to further improve the services to our members. This will be tremendous benefit to our commercial members.
